It’s my honor and pleasure to provide this recommendation for Bruce O’Connell for County Commissioner. I first met Bruce in my college days at the Pisgah Inn as I sought a place to work summer seasons that would provide exposure to the outdoors and cooler temperatures that higher elevations afford. I was lucky enough to secure a job there. Bruce was my direct supervisor.
From day one, and through three summer seasons, here’s what impressed me. He kept his word. Bruce did what he said. And he was fair in his dealings with me and other employees. You didn’t find that every day back then, and you certainly don’t find it often today. After all these years (37 and counting), here’s what I know. Bruce still keeps his word and he’s still fair in his dealings. How do I know this after all of these years? I now have the honor to serve him and the Pisgah Inn as their CPA and talk with him often in meeting their accounting needs.
Buncombe County needs a change. I grew up here, and as I talk with many locals who are my friends, we all agree that this community is no longer the community that we grew up in. Unfortunately, we all agree that it’s not changed for the better. We need new leadership. Leadership that understands how things should operate and leadership that brings common sense and solutions to the table. Bruce has that common sense. He’s run a business for the best part of 40 years, dealing and satisfying not only the public, but also the maze of rules and regulations of the US Park Service. He understands how government works. Rare is the person that can bring these skills to the table – an understanding of good business sense with an understanding of how government works.
I personally am so glad that he’s willing to offer his service to our County. He wants to make a difference. I have no doubt that Bruce O’Connell can make that difference and start to steer this beloved place we call home in a better direction.
